Original 1970s Textile Design - Abstract Gouache "Composition 19"

We offer a small number of these original illustration designs created by this studio based in Alcoy (Spain), which could be perfectly combined or form sets if buyers so wish. Designed to be woven or printed on fabric, the artist restricted the number of colors used for production reasons.

Hand-painted in gouache, the pieces were originally created for home textile companies that emerged in the Alcoy (Spain) region during the 60s to 80s, some of which still exist today.

Before the 1960s, there was a major crisis that drove the transformation of the region's textile industry, moving from textile production sold as raw materials for different uses, to specialization in home textiles and the evolution towards Jacquard fabrics made with cotton and synthetic fibers with a higher perceived value by consumers. This is the beginning of the international export of goods to third countries, as labor in Spain was still cheap compared to many European countries and the USA.

At that time, a new profession was also born: that of textile designer. Most of this collection we now offer are designs conceived for bedspreads, beach towels or kitchen cloths.
