Headboards

A headboard has to fit three things at once: the width of the bed, the wall behind it and the height of the room. A standard size rarely does all three. We make ours to order, in our atelier in Spain, in solid wood, leather and cannage, to the measurement you give us. What you see here is where a commission starts, not where it ends.

Headboards made to measure in our atelier

We build each headboard after the order, to the dimensions of your room. There is no maximum size and no fixed catalogue of proportions.

That matters more in a headboard than in almost any other piece we make. A bed sits against a specific wall, under a specific ceiling, often between a window and a door, and the headboard is what resolves that composition. Adjusting the bed to a standard headboard is the wrong way round.

The two pieces in this collection are starting points. If neither is exactly what your project needs, the commission begins with a conversation, not with a catalogue.

Cannage: hand-woven leather on solid wood

Cannage is the classic caning technique reinterpreted in leather. Instead of rattan, premium leather straps are woven by hand into the characteristic octagonal pattern, creating an architectural geometry of light and shadow that no pressed or printed finish can reproduce. The result is a surface with tactile depth and a natural patina that develops with time.

In a headboard, the woven leather panel gives the piece visual volume without bulk, and because every strap is placed by hand, no two panels fall exactly the same way.

We keep a whole Cannage Collection built around the technique.

Leather, solid wood and brass

Our Cannage Headboard combines solid wood with hand-woven leather straps worked into the characteristic octagonal cannage pattern.

Our Antique Boutique Headboard takes a mid-century line, with brass accents picking out the detailing.

Both are made to order. The full range of hides and finishes is set out on our Materials page, and you can read about how we work in the atelier.

Headboards for full, queen and king beds

We produce headboards for full, queen and king beds, and for any bed that falls outside those sizes.

Treat the standard sizes as reference points rather than as the options available. A full headboard ordered from us is made to the width you specify, not to a fixed template, and the same applies at queen and king.

Three things shape that decision, and none of them has a single right answer:

  • The width of the bed. A headboard can stop at the mattress edge, or run wider to frame it. Both work; they read very differently.
  • The wall available. Windows, corners and doors set the limit before taste does.
  • The ceiling height. The same headboard reads generous in one room and heavy in another.

We do not apply a fixed proportion rule, because the right answer depends on the room and on what you want the bed to do in it. Tell us the measurements and we will work from there.

Wall-mounted or bed-mounted

A headboard can be fixed to the wall or attached to the bed frame.

Wall-mounted lets the panel run wider than the bed and keeps the line clean, but it fixes the bed's position. Bed-mounted moves with the bed and suits rented or changing spaces, though it limits how far the headboard can extend.

How to order your headboard

Send us the width of your bed, the wall space you have and the ceiling height. From there we agree the proportions, the materials and the finish, and we produce the piece.

If you are specifying for a project, our Private Consultation is the place to start. We work regularly with interior designers and specifiers on bedroom schemes, often alongside our body mirrors.

Lead times and worldwide shipping

Production takes approximately six weeks, plus transport.

We ship anywhere in the world, with reinforced packaging designed to protect the piece in transit.

Frequently asked questions about our headboards

Can I order a headboard in any size?

Yes. We make each headboard to the measurement you give us, with no maximum size.

What is cannage?

Cannage is the classic caning technique executed in leather. Premium leather straps are woven by hand into an octagonal lattice and set into a solid wood frame. The pattern comes from the weave itself, and because every panel is made by hand, each one is slightly different.

What size headboard do I need for a full bed?

There is no single answer. A headboard can match the width of the bed or run wider to frame it, and the wall space available usually decides. Send us your measurements and we will work it out with you.

Is the headboard fixed to the wall or to the bed?

Either. Wall-mounted allows a wider panel and a cleaner line; bed-mounted moves with the bed. Which suits you depends on the room.

How long does it take to produce a headboard?

Approximately six weeks, plus transport.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship to any destination worldwide, with reinforced packaging.

Start your commission

A headboard is not a piece you buy off a shelf, and we do not make it that way. Send us the measurements of your bed and your wall, tell us how you want the room to read, and we will build the piece around that.

Our Private Consultation is where every commission begins.
